Poems, [Mount Laurel, N.Y.], ca.1802-1811.

Volume in several hands, principally containing copies of poems written at sea between 1804 and 1807, most of which are signed by Chace and addressed to various ladies, including members of his family. There is also an extract from a journal at Cape Town (1807), and two extracts dated 1807 from log-books of the ship Isis (of which B.G. Dexter was captain in 1804) enroute from Canton, and the brig Juno (of which Merritt Bates was captain and Chace, supercargo) enroute from Providence to Livorno. Copied later in Amanda Malcolm's hand (?) are verses by Chace on finding Miss Harriet F. Jones' earring in Providence Cove in 1811. The poems are preceded by copies of letters exchanged between George and Amanda Malcolm in Pennsylvania in 1802. The volume was presented by George to Amanda at Providence in 1809. A poem copied at Mount Laurel in 1809 is dedicated by Chace to Amanda, described as the friend of his sister, Anstis. The title page was illustrated at Mount Laurel in 1809 by Penelope Thurston, who is described in a later note by Amanda as being her cousin who married Gregory F. Bedell.
